New Police Department IT Network

NEW POLICE DEPARTMENT AND IT NETWORK HELP SIGNAL HILL PD IMPROVE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN OFFICERS ON THE STREET AND CENTRAL COMMAND CENTER

BODY CAMERAS, FINGER PRINT READERS AND LICENSE PLATE RECOGNITION ARE JUST SOME OF THE FEATURES

Los Angeles, CA (August 9, 2016) — Signal Hill, located 30 miles south of Los Angeles, California is a small city that frequently faces big city law enforcement issues. With rising crime rates in Los Angeles, the trickle-down effect had become an increasing area of concern for law enforcement. Signal Hill law enforcement officials began to seek out better ways to not only keep the streets safer, but their officers as well.

Signal Hill PD, in partnership with Total Network Solutions, set out to demonstrate how smaller police departments with limited budgets can institute affordable and effective technology systems and solutions that are traditionally seen in large city law enforcement agencies.

New Building Leads to Investment in Advanced Information Technology

The plan began with the design and construction of a modern, new police station that Signal Hill PD now calls home. Although one would be impressed enough with the sleek new building and impressive interior, it is what you don’t see that makes this police department worth talking about. The station’s new IT infrastructure is capable of handling all the critical applications and vital communication needs, both internally and externally, for the entire City. It enables officers to be in constant communication with Central Command and provides instant access to critical information while on patrol.

To accomplish this, Signal Hill PD partnered with TNS to rollout a robust, comprehensive IT Network. Under the careful guidance of Signal Hill’s command staff and Project Team, TNS implemented a first rate technology suite that was designed to manage and instantly share vital law enforcement data with officers in the field. The system featured Microsoft servers, along with Dell and Cisco hardware to manage CAD/RMS, body cameras, in-car cameras, and fingerprint readers. It also included a license plate recognition solution that quickly scans for previous violations.

IT Solution Helps Signal Hill PD in Many Ways

To improve the emergency and disaster management process, TNS worked with the Signal Hill PD to install, deploy and manage a state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Center (EOC) that allows the police station to directly share data and deployment instructions to all personnel, on or off the street, during emergency and disaster situations.

Finally, to maximize its investment, Signal Hill PD entered into a comprehensive managed services agreement with TNS. Under this agreement, TNS manages all of the department’s IT Infrastructure, including monitoring and maintenance of all Signal Hill PD IT assets, on site engineering services, 24X7X365 helpdesk services and application support. This comprehensive level of support, coupled with the Virtual CIO services that TNS provides to the Police Department for budgeting, road mapping and overall oversight, has allowed the PD to see big IT results and services at a price they can afford.

While TNS focuses on the technology, which is what they do best, the PD can focus on keeping Signal Hill and its citizens safe — because it’s what they do best.
